,

The Delhi Commission for Women has rescued a 29-year-old girl who was being forced to work as domestic help for 15 years in a house in Uttam Nagar. The girl hails from a remote village in Jharkhand and was held captive in the house since she was 14 years old. The girl, in her written statement to the police, stated that she did not receive any wages for 14 years of her employment. She was often verbally abused and beaten up by the house owner who did not allow her to step out of the house, the statement said. After the rescue, the girl revealed that she was employed through a placement agency, but it had shut down a few years ago.
